With their bright colors and flavors, it seems like summer produce get to have all the fun - showing up at parties and barbecues as honored guests. Don't be fooled by the shy nature of cold weather veg. Even though they are gnarled and humble, if you know how to coax out their sweet personalities, you'll find them to be equally charming.Tonight, I picked up some farm stand veggies to go with dinner. You would think that a fine pot roast with horseradish cream would get all the attention, but it was the roasted vegetables that won raves. The rutabaga was particularly delicious.
Dress chunks of carrot, rutabaga, potato, onion, and apple with sausage grease, a generous dose of sea salt, freshly cracked pepper, and lavender, and roasted at 400 degrees (F) until browned.
